Who will be answering my query?

During the advertised opening hours, trained advisers, who can give independent and impartial advice on all aspects of education for children and young people with additional support needs (special educational needs), will answer your call or respond to letters and e-mail enquiries.

When is the helpline open?

The helpline opening hours are

Monday9am to 5pm

Tuesday9am to 7pm

Wednesday9am to 5pm

Thursday9am to 7pm

Friday9am to 5pm

What happens if I call when the helpline is closed?

When there is no adviser available to deal with your call, there is an answering machine to take messages. Helpline advisers will contact callers who leave their details on the message taker.

I cannot speak fluent English; can I still call your service?

Yes, an interpreter can be arranged for callers who do not have English as their first or preferred language.

I don’t want to talk to an adviser, how can I ask my question?

You could either click here to complete the on-line enquiry form, send an email to info@enquire.org.uk, or send us a letter with your enquiry - our address is on the Contact us page.

Who can contact the helpline?

Parents, carers, children, young people and professionals are all welcome to contact the Enquire helpline.

Are calls recorded?

From time to time an extra member of staff listens into calls. This is for staff training and development only. Calls are never recorded.

Is the helpline free?

Helpline advice and information is free.
Calls provided by BT will be charged at up to 4 pence per minute at all times. A call set-up fee of 3 pence per call applies to calls from BT residential lines. Mobile and other providers’ charges may vary.

Is it confidential?

Everything you talk to us about will be treated in the strictest confidence unless you tell us a child or young person is being, or has been abused, or is at risk of serious harm.

Does Enquire offer advocacy?

Enquire does not offer advocacy services. If you are looking for an advocacy service, please contact the Enquire helpline and the advisers will try to find a suitable organisation in your area.

Enquire is managed by Children in Scotland and funded by the Scottish Government.
