FAQs — Resolving disagreements

I feel I am “hitting a brick wall” with my concerns over my child’s education and no one at any level seems to be listening to me.
What can I do next?

Every education authority has to provide an independent mediation service free of charge for parents and young people. Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process during which a neutral third person (a mediator) helps those involved in a disagreement to find a shared solution that resolves the problem. All disagreements about the education of children with additional support needs can be referred to mediation. You should contact the education officer with responsibility for additional support needs to ask how to apply for mediation.

Please see Factsheet 9 — Mediation.
